I am delighted that you have chosen to visit the Virgin Islands Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation Website. We manage beaches, parks and recreational facilities throughout the territory that are under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Virgin Islands.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the community by providing diverse sports programs, recreational activities, and leisure opportunities at well-maintained parks and recreational facilities for the overall enjoyment of residents and visitors.

The Virgin Islands consists of four (4) major islands with year-round beautiful weather that enables everyone to enjoy and participate in their desired choice of recreational activities. The department provides a variety of activities in collaboration with other public and private entities, as well as maintaining the various parks and recreational facilities for use by the general public.

Spectator sports are numerous throughout the year, to include Horse Racing, Basketball tournaments, Little League Baseball games, Adult Baseball leagues, Tennis, Soccer, Cricket, etc. Additionally, the department conducts after-school programs, to include sport activities, tutorial programs, steel pan playing, marine sports program, amateur boxing, dance classes, etc.

Presently, the department is going through some changes that will include a name change to the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation. As of March 11, 2008, the housing component was transferred to the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority in accordance with Act No. 6973.
